Cargill Specialty Canola Oils – recognized as a healthy alternative
The United States Drug Administration (USDA) has placed high oleic canola oil at the head of the list of good fats. Prompted by growing consumer demand and new regulations that require manufacturers to label products with trans fats, major food companies like Kraft, Unilever Bestfoods and General Mills are seeking healthy solutions to eliminate trans fats from their topline food brands.
Over 150 end-user companies depend on an assured supply of Cargill’s specialty high oleic canola oil in the production of crackers, cookies, dried fruits, potato chips, nutritional beverages and granola bars. McDonald’s famous fries are cooked in an oil blend that includes high oleic canola oil. This enables McDonald’s Restaurants to provide their customers healthier, trans fat-free food products while retaining the same great McDonald’s flavour. Cargill’s willingness to partner with McDonald’s to find the “perfect” oil and Cargill’s ability and commitment to provide a reliable supply was a huge factor in their decision to switch to high oleic oil. As a result, McDonald’s has total confidence in the quality and continuous supply of oil provided by Cargill Specialty Canola Oils and grower partners.
Grower partnerships are all important
Cargill recognizes the special relationship that exists with growers. Using a fully integrated business model, they partner with growers every step of the way to focus on supplying what end-users want and need, while delivering improved value to the grower. Growers entering into a production agreement have come to rely on Cargill to provide the security of top performing hybrids with attractive per acre returns, unique grain marketing options and links to new end use markets. Helping growers manage risk and providing reliable pricing allows growers to plan future investments and gain peace of mind.
Operating out of Winnipeg, Manitoba and Minneapolis, Minnesota, Cargill uses its expertise in research and biotechnology to develop high performing canola hybrids including VICTORY® and InVigor® Health Hybrids. These hybrids are tested extensively throughout Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba and North Dakota in numerous trialing systems, both internal and through third parties.
Canadian specialty canola research is based in Camrose, Alberta, Aberdeen, Saskatchewan and Elm Creek, Manitoba. Cargill’s specialty canola is crushed at Clavet, Saskatchewan and West Fargo, North Dakota.
