Testimonials 2006

Here's what some of our grower partners have had to say about Cargill's specialty canola oils.
“Victory is as easy to grow and yields about the same as any other canola that we've seeded. Victory went just under 40 bushels per acre on our farm in 2006 and the premium makes a difference in our return per acre. Delivery options provide a lot of marketing flexibility too. We also prefer the Roundup Ready system - it's easy to use if you only have to make one pass and does a good job on a lot of different weeds.”
- Brewer, Erle, Hamiota, MB
“Growing a high oleic acid canola like Victory helps us to maximize our revenue per acre. Victory averaged about 41 bushels per acre on our farm in 2006, and we were quite pleased with yield. It was hot and very dry from July 1 through to harvest, but all of our canola did well and we were especially pleased with performance of Victory. We also like the Roundup Ready system. Seeding Victory simplifies spraying and helps to control some of the tougher weeds we have in our fields.”
- Brooks, Dale, Hamiota, MB
“I like the way Victory jumps out of the ground. It has just as much pop as the other canola I grow and yields are comparable. Marketing opportunities make growing Victory quite attractive too. There's a niche market for Victory canola oil and we get a premium for supplying that market. With the premium, Victory has definitely been my best-paying crop for the past 2 years and that's what it all comes down to.”
- Hart, Randy, Minitonas, MB
“We've always thought that it only made sense to start with an end user and work our way back from there when we're deciding what to put in the ground every spring. And we think that there are some excellent opportunities in growing IMC209 canola to meet the demand for oils with healthier profiles. We're quite pleased with performance of IMC209, and the Roundup Ready system fits our cropping program very well.”
- Heide, Richard, Winkler, MB
“We didn't get an inch of rain all summer long, yet IMC209 still yielded about 30 bushels per acre. We'll definitely try IMC209 again; it did as well as other canola we grew and IMC209 seed is cheaper than some other canola varieties. We also got a good premium for growing IMC209 and we had very clean fields after harvest because it is a Roundup Ready variety.”
- Maendel, Steve, Tourond, MB
“We grew Victory for the first time in 2006 and were very pleased. Conditions were good and all our canola yielded well. Victory averaged between 40 and 42 bushels per acre, which was comparable with other canola. Growing Victory provides us with guaranteed delivery and marketing flexibility and the premium improves our returns. And being able to use Roundup means it's more affordable to spray a second time if we have to.”
- Paddock, Wes, Rivers, MB
“Demand from industry and consumers for specialty canola with unique oil profiles will continue to grow, so there'll be opportunities for growers to meet that demand with a canola like IMC209. We grew IMC209 for the first time in 2006 and yield compared very favorably with other canola we had on the farm. Everything was within 2 bushels of each other. The simplicity and effectiveness of applying Roundup is great and being able to spray 2 or 3 times if necessary at minimal cost is a huge benefit.”
- Unrau, Gary, Roland, MB
“Whatever crop you grow it's all about net return and Victory is a very profitable canola to grow. It jumps out of the ground, closes the canopy very quickly and is easy to cut and harvest. We prefer to seed a Roundup Ready canola like Victory because glyphosate is reasonably priced and always does an excellent job of controlling weeds. We grow only crops that we know we can move and Victory is a canola the market wants.”
- Delahey, Dave, Moose Jaw, SK
“Victory canola is the most profitable canola we grow. It has performed as well or better than any canola that we've grown and even in dry conditions yields very well. We prefer to grow a Roundup Ready canola like Victory because we always get excellent control and it's affordable to go in a second time if you have to. It's very easy to control volunteers in subsequent crops with something like MCPA or 2,4-D. Victory is the best payer on our farm.”
- Gettis, Kevin, Semans, SK
“We've been pretty happy with Victory over the past 2 years. Victory has a lot of early spring vigor and covers the ground quickly. We also get excellent, consistent weed control with Roundup. Victory is the type of canola that the marketplace wants so there's some financial stability in participating in this program. Victory is not our highest yielding canola but, with the premium, it is one of the more profitable varieties that we grow.”
- Laycock, Grant, Saltcoats, SK
“Canola oils that have healthier profiles are going to be used more and more in the food industry, so growing a high oleic canola like Victory gives us a chance to be a part of that trend and increase our revenue per acre at the same time. We grew Victory for the first time in 2006 and were very pleased with performance. Victory stood up well and was very easy to cut and harvest. Despite hot, dry conditions Victory averaged 34 to 35 bushels per acre, which was comparable to all of the other canola that we grew on our farm as well as average yields in our area.”
- LeBlanc, Claude, St. Denis, SK
“If it wasn't for some very dry weather in most of July and then Bertha armyworms, we would have had 40-bushel crops of canola across the board. So we were very pleased when Victory averaged about 35 bushels on summerfallow and our other canola went between 30 and 35. We've grown contracted crops in the past and the Cargill program is very attractive. We have a guaranteed market, flexible delivery options and the crop is picked up in our yard. Victory, being a Roundup Ready canola, fits our cropping program very well.”
- Melrose, Bill, Maymont, SK
“With consumers and industry becoming so aware of food-related health issues, I think there are excellent opportunities for growers to pocket more money by seeding a hybrid canola like Victory. Performance is improving all the time and the yield plus the premium provides a good net return per acre. Roundup also fits our cropping program very well. Even though it's drier in our area we're able to maximize yields by direct-seeding and using Roundup. We see a lot of potential down the road with Victory canola.”
- Potts, Dave, Watrous, SK
“The premium we get from growing Victory canola amounts to a lot of money in total return and for the past 2 to 3 years it's been one of our better yielding varieties. We also like the broad-spectrum weed control we get by seeding a Roundup Ready variety like Victory. Roundup is very safe on the crop and it's affordable if we have to spray a second time. We are trying to grow more and more crops that fit niche markets because that's what consumers want. Victory canola gives us higher returns and marketing flexibility to meet this growing demand for cooking oils with healthier profiles.”
